How did Facebook receive your web activity?
You can understand it by a simple example. So suppose, a user "Harry" is browsing on internet and he visit a website like amazon and then search a product on it so whenever a user search anything on these type of websites then these websites and apps share your information about your activity with Facebook.
Websites and apps share your information using Facebook's business tools. According to Facebook, they use your activities to personalize your experience by showing you relevant ads. Therefore, you always see only those ads on Facebook that you have been looking for recently.
How is activity shared by websites and apps with Facebook?
You can easily understand it by an example so there are some points that are given below so read all of them carefully.
- Suppose, "Harry" visit a shopping website and then purchased some books from that website.
- So now that website share the activity with Facebook by using business tools of Facebook.
- Once the Facebook receive the web activity of "Harry" then the activity is saved on his Facebook account. The activity is saved as "Visited the shopping website" and "make a purchase".

How can you turn off "Off-Facebook activity" by using Facebook application?
You need to follow some steps to turn it off so follow all these steps very carefully till the end. You can also clear the history of your web-activity by following these steps.
Note:- If you don't have Facebook application then you can read the steps that are performed on browser (i.e. on Facebook's website) so if you want to read those steps then you can skip this and you will get all those steps by scrolling down.
Step 1:- Open your Facebook account in your android phone and then click on "hamburger icon" (3 lines) that is given at the top right hand side.
Step 2:- After clicking on it, scroll down and then you will see a option of "Settings and privacy" so click on it and then click on "Settings" as shown in screenshot.
Step 3:- On the next screen, scroll down your page and find the option of "Your Facebook Information" in which you will see a option of "Off-Facebook activity" so click on it.
Step 4:- Now you will see some of the names of those websites and Apps through which Facebook is getting the information of your web activity so if you want to see the full list of applications and websites then click on it as shown in screenshot.
Step 5:- On the next page, you will see all the names of websites and applications. As you can see in the screenshot, there are total 268 apps and websites that have shared my web activity with Facebook so click on "Clear history" to remove them.
Step 6:- Now after clearing it, you need to turn off "off-Facebook activity so click on "3 dots" given at the top right hand side and then click on "Manage future activity".
Step 7:- Now again click on "Manage future activity" and then you will see a option of "Future off-Facebook activity" so click on it once and then click on "Turn off" as shown in screenshot.
After following all these steps correctly, your "Off-Facebook activity" will stop successfully.
How to turn off "off-Facebook activity" without using Facebook Application?
This is only for those users who don't have Facebook application so if are using your account on application then read the steps that are given above but if are using it on browser then read these steps that are given below:-
Step 1:- Open your Facebook account in a browser (Chrome recommended) and click on "drop-down" menu and then you will see a option of "Settings and privacy" so click on it and then click on "Settings".
Step 2 :- After clicking on it, you will see a option of "Your Facebook information" so click on it and then click on "off-Facebook activity".
Step 3:- Now you will see some of the names of "Apps and websites" that have shared your web-activity with Facebook so click on it.
Step 4:- After clicking on it, you will see the full list of App and websites that have shared your activity. Now there is option of "Clear History" so click on it to clear the history of all the "Apps and websites".
Step 5:- After clearing the history, then you have to click on "Manage future activity".
Step 6:- On the next page there will be a option of "Turning off" so click on it.
So after performing these steps on browser then your "Off-Facebook activity will be stop successfully.
What happens when you turn off "off-Facebook activity?
This is also an important query for everyone so if you turn it off then Facebook will remove all the activities that have shared by apps and websites with Facebook due to which Facebook will unable to get the information about your web activity therefore you will not get any relevant/targeted ads.
Note:- It will show the same of Number of ads as before but Facebook will not be able to show you any relevant ad i.e. if you visit a website and search for any product then the Facebook will not be able to get the information of your activity to show the ad of that product.
