Wacky Web Tales by Houghton Mifflin is a site that has been around for quite awhile, but it remains one of my favorite, fun interactive sites. Wacky Web Tales is a collection of short stories that students create by filling in random words- like a Mad-Libs story. The students must know their parts of speech as they choose nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives for their story. There is a parts of speech help section for those that need assistance. After words are chosen, the students see their story with the random words inserted- often with hilarious results. Students are always highly motivated to create and read their stories with this activity. Many of the stories can be used as seasonal writing activities. There are several fall related stories available such as: The Best Town in the World Has a Fall Festival, My Amazing Thanksgiving, The Mummy, The New Kids in School, and Why I Love Fall.
